They can be used alone or with other worksheets on this website. They can even be used for just plain fun! If you really want to encourage your students to do their best work, make sure they have good quality supplies (colored pencils, crayons, tape, glue, paper). It is very discouraging for a student to put their heart into a project - only to have his or her map, report or poster appear less than stellar due to poor quality supplies, like crayons that smear and skip. They will also need access to an atlas or globe and any other resources you may have available at home or at the library. Possible items to map -- the state capital, major cities, birthplaces of famous people, rivers, lakes, mountains, crops and climate. How about mapping the cities where family members or friends live or work? Also, consider mapping the other states, countries, bodies of water, etc. that border the state you are studying.
