Elbow macaroni noodles, paint and paper, a hammer with nails and two by fours - with parental supervision :-), and baking cookies or preparing the evening's meal are all wonderful and relevant (very important for some reluctant learners) ways to introduce and strenthen math skills.

Even at age 6, long before being introduced to formal division or fractions, the average child will understand very well that something is amiss if his brother gives him only two of six cookies they were to share equally :-)!
