Skip counting is an excellent place to start. Mastery of skip counting by 2s, 3s, etc. through 12 will make learning the multiplication facts much easier. Add to skip counting some practical applications - ie, skip counting as you hand each child two cookies (or carrots, celery sticks, etc.). Make skip counting relevant as you use it to count the number of days before a birthday (for example - "7, 14, 21 plus 3 more days, for a total of 24 days until your birthday next month!"). There are so many ways that we use skip counting everyday -- be sure to share these moments with your children. Children may not always be excited to learn about math, but they are very interested in learning about life :-)!
