Have Fun with Writing!
Here you will find fun writing prompts, reports, and other creative writing worksheets for your homeschool! -- I encourage you to let this process be 7 or 8 parts "adventure", and perhaps 2 or 3 parts "assignment".
It is so much more fun to write when one is interested in the subject. Ah, you may say - isn't it important to teach children to respond to specific writing prompts, with specific guidelines, even though they may not be "interested"?
I will answer it this way. Remember what it is that you are really trying to achieve. If the goal of this writing assignment is to encourage a love of writing, develop creativity, and to begin to understand the writing process - one might conclude that the goal is broad enough already :-). Adding several other mandatory requirements, such as exact style, format, topic, perfect grammar and handwriting, may be too much for both teacher and student.
Don't try to perfect every weak skill in one assignment. Focus on one or two of the most important ones, and encourage your child to enjoy the rest of the process while he pays close attention to those areas. Permit me to repeat my words from an earlier article - A joyful heart is one of your most valuable teaching tools!
